All-Star Weekend

The WBCAs All-Star Weekend consists of three events:

  • An All-Star Doubleheader featuring Class A All-Stars vs. Class AA All-Stars and Class AAA All-Stars vs. Class AAAA All-Stars
  • An Awards Banquet that honors players selected to play in the All-Star Doubleheader as well as the Pitchers, Players and Coaches of the Year in each classification and the winner of the John Challis Memorial Award
  • An underclassmen showcase that is open to juniors who are varsity starters

The inaugural WPIAL Baseball Coaches Association All-Star Game was played in June 2004. The process for selecting the players to participate in the All-Star Games begins with coaches nominating seniors from their team for consideration by a Selection Committee. Only seniors are eligible to play in the game due to PIAA rules. The information for the nominated players is then assembled and provided to the Selection Committee.

A Selection Committee for each classification, consisting of a chairman and at least one section representative, then meets and selects the team, along with alternates. The players selected are then contacted to determine whether they will be able to play. If a player declines his invitation the top alternate at his position is then invited to play.
