Very Sad News

by tonyv 25. May 2010 19:59

I just learned this morning that Ty Marburger passed away on Sunday. Ty was a great baseball player at Blackhawk High School and graduated in 2006. He played in the 2006 WBCA All-Star Game and went on to play college baseball at Northern Iowa. Something like this always serves as a reminder to appreciate the good health of your children. Memorial donations may be made to the Ty Marburger Baseball Scholarship Fund at ESB Bank, 800 Third Avenue, New Brighton PA 15066.

Playoff Cancellations - Wednesday

by tonyv 19. May 2010 21:39

Most games scheduled for today have been cancelled.

All the Quad A games have been cancelled

Based on the WPIAL site, there are two games still scheduled in Triple A -- Elizabeth Forward vs Knoch at Gateway (though another game at Gateway has been cancelled, which I find confusing) and Blackhawk vs West Mifflin at Burkett

Several games are still on in Double A:  Greensburg vs Burrell at Highlands; Freeport vs Canevin at Highlands; Freedom vs Laurel at Neshannock; Center vs Ellwood at Neshannock; Riverview vs Deer Lakes at Gateway and Brownsville vs Beaver at Burkett

There are three games still on in Single A: Vincentian vs Union at Pullman Park; Neshannock vs Leechburg at Pullman; Monaca vs Char-Houston at Burkett

I'm headed to Burkett shortly so I won't have any more update

Playoffs About Set

by tonyv 9. May 2010 17:04

It looks like the playoff field is about set. Here are who I think the qualifiers are, after applying the tiebreakers.

Quad A- Section 1 North Allegheny, Pine-Richland, Shaler, Butler (Shaler and Butler tied for 3rd and split their two games so both make it)

Quad A - Section 2 Norwin, Hempfield, Penn-Trafford (Latrobe could tie P-T but lost both games against P-T so they lose the tiebreaker)

Quad A - Section 3 Upper St Clair, Baldwin, Peters Township

Quad A-Section 4 Penn Hills, Central Catholic, Plum

Triple A - Section 1 Blackhawk, Knoch, Hampton

Triple A - Section 2 Mount Pleasant, Laurel Highlands, Greensburg-Salem

Triple A-Section 3 Hopewell, Moon, Montour

Triple A - Section 4 Thomas Jefferson, Elizabeth-Forward, West Mifflin -- Trinity gets in if they beat Thomas Jefferson on Monday

Double A - Section 1 Center, Freedom, Beaver

Double A - Section 2 Washington, Brownsville, Waynesburg

Double A-Section 3 Freeport, Burrell, Deer Lakes

Double A-Section 4 Shady Side Academy, Greensburg CC, Riverview (Steel Valley loses tiebreaker)

Double A - Section 5 Beaver Falls, Ellwood City, Laurel -- Mohawk gets in if Ellwood City beats Laurel on Monday

Double A - Section 6 South Fayette, Bishop Canevin, Seton LaSalle

Single A -Section 2 California, Bentworth, Chartiers-Houston

Single A -Section 1 Beth-Center, Jefferson-Morgan, Carmichaels

Single A - Section 3 Neshannock, Monaca, Union
