With the playoffs getting close, there are the usual questions about tie-breakers and such. WPIAL section play must be completed by May 12 and I believe the baseball committee meets to set the playoff pairings on May 14, with games starting the week of May 17. Championships are June 1 and June 1 at Console Energy Field in Washington.
The top three teams in each section enter the playoffs. Section standings are determined by section games only. Ties for first place are not broken through tie-breakers or other means and all the tied teams are declared the section teams. The tie-breaker used is the head to head record of all the tied teams. If the tie cannot be broken through that mechanism, all the teams go to the playoffs.
The top three finishers in the WPIAL tournament advance to the PIAA playoffs in classes A, AAA and AAAA. The top 4 teams advance in AA.
