What Price Pitching?

I think everyone realizes the heavy focus placed on pitchers by college coaches during the recruiting process. In order to try to quantify how heavy that focus really is, we surveyed college coaches to see how they would divide up $100,000 in scholarship money if they were starting a team from scratch. With 48 coaches from all levels responding, the averages for each position were as follows:

·         Pitchers

o   Average              49,670

o   Highest               70,000

o   Lowest               30,000

o   Median              50,000

·         Catchers

o   Average             13,620

o   Highest               25,000

o   Lowest                 8,000

o   Median              12,000

·         Middle Infielders

o   Average             18,320

o   Highest               30,000

o   Lowest               10,000

o   Median              20,000

·         Outfielders & Corner Infielders

o   Average             18,400

o   Highest               40,000

o   Lowest              0

o   Median              15,000
